Objectives
The general objective of this proposal is to use state-of-the-art genomic methodologies to assist selection of sheep resistant to footroot and gastrointestinal nematodes in the Alentejo region.
Specific objectives are:
Identification of relevant risk factors associated with footroot and gastrointestinal nematodes, in sheep farms of Alentejo
Disease characterization and methodology of diagnostic for identification of resistant / susceptible animals. Use of metagenomic tools for identification of footroot causative agents.
Assessment of the economic impact of footroot and gastrointestinal nematodes, in the Alentejo region
Use of genomic wide association studies for identification of genetic markers associated with footroot and gastrointestinal nematodes
Evaluate the economic impact of the project in the control of footrot and gastrointestinal nematodes and improving productivity and profitability of sheep farms.
Project management and dissemination of results
